What's a goal tree?
Leapsome's goal tree allows you to visualize dependencies and alignment between different goals. It helps employees to understand how their individual goals contribute to team or company level goals. It also helps to highlight dependencies between different goals.
How do I set up the goal tree? And what are parent goals?
First, ensure that in your 'Admin settings' for Goals & OKRs, the section 'Enable team and company goals, the parent goal attribute, and the goal tree (OKRs)' is enabled.
To generate the goal tree, you need to link goals to a parent goal. To do this, click 'Edit' on a goal, scroll down to the section 'Connect to a parent goal' and select the goal that your current goal should be linked to. Don't forget to 'Publish' afterwards. It's important that the parent goal you want to link the new goal to is created beforehand. When searching for parent goals, you can search through the filters 'Company,' 'team,' or 'individual,' or you can use the search bar to search for key terms associated to the parent goal you would like to link. Once goals are linked to parent goals, you will then generate a goal tree that is dynamically calculated. Please note that key results are not currently shown in the goal tree.
Which goals show in the goal tree?
To show up in the goal tree:
- A personal goal needs to have at least one child goal (otherwise, it will appear in the 'top level goals with out child goals' list. You cannot assign a parent to a personal goal.
- Team or company goals will automatically appear at the top level unless you manually assign them a parent.
- All goals which are on the same level because they have the same parent goal are displayed in alphabetical order.
- The goal displayed at the top of the goal tree is your company vision. You can change your company vision in the admin settings.
