Benchmarks help you interpret your company's survey results by showing you how your company compares to similar companies that use Leapsome. We break down the benchmarks into categories to show you how your results compare to other companies from the same location, industry, and size.
For which questions do you provide benchmarks?
They are available for all best practice questions and categories, as well as for custom questions that can now be linked to similar best practice questions. Upon setting up your survey, you will have the option to link a custom question you've created to a similar best practice question from a range that will be suggested once you start typing. This allows you to use custom questions applicable to your unique company environment while still gaining external industry benchmark data.
Just a note: To preserve data integrity, the answers to the linked custom question will not contribute to the best practice question's benchmark data.
Who can see them?
Depending on your company's visibility settings, benchmarks are visible to survey owners and admins of the account, managers, and employees.
How are they calculated?
Benchmarks are up-to-date - we only include responses from the last 12 months. As such, expect them to change from time to time. We try to automatically include companies that are similar to your own company or industry; as a fallback, a representative set of Leapsome customers is chosen. We provide benchmarks for companies in your industry as well as your location and size to provide you insight on where your score lies within the categories that are relevant for you.
To ensure the validity of survey benchmarks, we only show the results if at least 20 companies participated and at least 500 users provided responses. Our benchmark scope is updated every day, that's why we can't provide the exact number of responses as it does not remain static.
How to access granular survey benchmarks
By navigating to the list view in surveys you can see benchmark data points to assess how you compare to companies that are similar to you, surfacing the following combinations:
- Location + Industry
- Location + Company Size
- Company Size + Industry
- Location + Industry + Company Size
How to manually change benchmarks
Flexibly update benchmark comparison groups (even temporarily) by selecting any industry, country, or company size that you want. You can customize the selected benchmarks at any time by navigating to your 'Settings' > 'Module Settings' > 'Surveys' > 'Survey benchmarks'.
Why should you care about benchmarks?
Survey benchmarks are important for companies because they provide a valuable tool for making informed decisions based on the results of a survey. By comparing the results of a survey to established benchmarks, companies can identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to address any issues or concerns.
They are a great tool for giving you context to understand your own data and making sure that you focus on the right improvement areas.
Be sure to interpret them with care and not "aim for the benchmark". Different topics may well have a different priority at other companies. Make sure to identify what is important in your context and aim high for these cases.
Company average benchmarks – comparing internal groupings to your company average.
You can also use internal benchmarks. For example, if you want to see how your sales team is feeling in comparison to the company average, this is when you'd want to use the company average benchmark. This will be shown in the heatmap as the left-most column. You can turn off the ability for others to see this benchmark (if you've made survey results visible via the 'Visibility' settings), by turning off the 'Company-wide' benchmark visibility toggle.
