Before you kick off your first 360° or performance assessment, you should decide on a scale for your rated questions. The default setting is a 5-point scale, but you can choose a 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10-point scale or a continuous scale. This scale will be applied to all rated questions used in any future assessment.
We recommend using a 5-point scale as it is easy to understand and provides a spectrum of choices and level of granularity without overwhelming.
To change the scale (and labels), go to 'Settings' > 'Module Settings' > 'Reviews' > 'Review Default Scale'.
It is also possible to translate the labels of your scale into different languages by clicking the alphabet symbol on the right side of the text field. A new window will open. Select the language you would like to translate the scale into and enter the translation. Remember to confirm. Now your users will see each label of your scale in the language they chose in their profile. All non-translated scale labels are displayed in English by default.
Next to changing the scale and labels, you can also decide if you want to hide these numbers and only show labels in your reviews, meaning people filling an assessment would only respond to the text and not see the associated numbers. Please note, that the Review analytics will show numerical values if more than one contributes to the score. E.g. Self-assessment and manager assessment, total score or categories of competencies.
If you update your default review scale to be different scale than you used previously, then your review analytics will be reflected to a normalized 100 pt scale.
Please Note: Hiding numbers in the review scale will also affect the survey analytics filter 'Group by performance quantile of respondent (based on latest manager score)'. This will make your analytics normalize to a 100-point scale.
To understand how scales are normalized in Leapsome analytics, please find more details here.
We suggest using this default scale for all templates, and thus suggest checking the respective box ('Also override the default scale for all existing templates') before you click 'Update settings.'
If you would like to change the default review scale for a specific template or (draft) cycle, you can do so in the template / cycle setup under 'Questions' by clicking 'Edit the default scale' at the bottom of the page.
To use different scales (or multiple choice) for individual questions within a review, click on the settings button next to the question (⚙️).
