By default, Leapsome will calculate the average of all manager responses to scored questions (regardless of whether they are general competencies, team competencies, or custom questions) as the final participant score.
While we recommend keeping this default - you may sometimes want to implement custom logic that weights some questions more than others. This article explains how to implement custom score weighting for assessments:
Setup
In the 'Reviews' tab, click on the 'Templates' section on the left-hand side.
If you want to have the same weights every time you run a cycle with the template you're changing, you'll want to click 'Manage template' to edit the master template. This means every time you use that template, those same weights will be in place. If you want to run a one-time cycle with custom weights, you can skip editing the template and change the weights when creating a cycle ('Launch cycle based on template').
From then, the creation of weights is the same.
When in a template setup or launching a new cycle, go to the 'Questions' section. At the bottom of the page, click 'Advanced default scale and weight settings.' In the pop-up window, tick the checkbox 'Enable custom weights for questions (in %)'.
Doing this will enable weight boxes for each scored question, be they general competencies, team competencies, goals, or any custom questions you've set to have scored.
Please note: if you instead choose to activate the setting 'Hide numbers and only show labels' in your scale, all numbers will be hidden which will also hide the total score achieved. If you want the score in the feedback review to be visible, it is recommended to show the numbers here.
You must enter weights as whole numbers (e.g., '20' for 20%), and they must add up to 100. Once done, you can save the template or launch the cycle.
Score calculation
Here are a few useful things to know about the custom score:
- Managers will see a live preview of their scores at the bottom of the assessment form.
- Weights will be applied regardless of whether a question was answered or not (this means you should only apply weights to questions / categories answered by managers and reviewees, otherwise their scores will diverge).
- If you are also using weighted goals, Leapsome will first calculate the weighted average (based on the weights in the goals module) of your goal score, and then apply the overall goal category weight to that score.
- Important: If only some goals within an assessment have custom weights, we will exclude all goals without weight from the score calculation.
- Final scores are displayed in the cycle dashboard and can be exported to an Excel sheet.
