Your admins may enable Leapsome's AI feature in reviews.
The Leapsome AI offers leaders an easy way to transform their thoughts into constructive comments enriched with ideas on improvement initiatives, giving their team members more impactful takeaways.
You can provide managers with a digestible overview of feedback through the ability to generate a summary of that team member's feedback from peers and direct reports.
The feature can also help feedback authors move faster and with greater certainty by using the AI to reduce any miscommunication or confusion through its grammar and spelling check function.
If the AI feature is enabled, an icon will appear in reviews for employees to utilize the AI function to obtain more constructive comments based on feedback they are trying to provide. Simply write an idea or feedback that you would like to give and click the AI button on the bottom left, and select whether you would like to "show ideas on how to make the feedback more constructive" to obtain more ideas, or select "check grammar and spelling" to check the syntax and spelling of the feedback you have written.
Frequently asked questions
1. Who will prepare the performance review, the manager or a computer program?
- Your manager will prepare and input their written feedback for you based on their assessment of your performance. If your manager wishes, they can then choose to turn on the AI-backed enhancement to optimize their written feedback. So, if they are not a confident writer or need to become more familiar with written feedback best practices and they want to ensure their written feedback is productive, well-rounded, and actionable — the AI-backed enhancement can help with this.
- The AI-backed enhancement cannot generate feedback from scratch.
2. Will all feedback be identical?
- Initial feedback will still need to be typed in by a manager based on their unique perspective of managing their team. The role of a manager is nuanced and complex and must be tailored to individual needs and personalities. This AI-backed enhancement will not replace the manager’s role or unique perspectives.
- If a manager is not a confident writer, they can opt to run their feedback through the AI-backed enhancement to optimize it — making it more impactful, easier to understand, and more consistent with feedback best practices.
- The AI-backed enhancement cannot generate feedback from scratch, nor should it. The end result will always be based on your individual manager’s initial feedback and unique to your performance.
3. Is the AI feedback replacing the manager's feedback?
- We view AI’s role in HR as an accelerator, optimizer, and improver of content and processes created by humans. We strongly believe in the potential of Leapsome's new AI features, designed to enhance, not replace, the human role in performance reviews.
- Feedback should always be prepared and written by a human. But some humans are more confident writers than others. When technology is available to accelerate, streamline, and improve our work, we should embrace it, and that is what Leapsome's AI feature does.
4. Is my performance review data safe? If Reviews is backed by OpenAI, then doesn’t OpenAI get access to all feedback that’s fed into the AI-backed enhancement?
- These AI features are optional and need to be enabled by an admin. Of course, we have also concluded a data processing agreement with OpenAI which binds it to GDPR-compliant processing rules. We are also only sharing the feedback text itself and not any personal identifiers (unless mentioned in the feedback text).
- Please note that the AI also considers additional context such as the question, question description, the scale, the rating, and the user role.
5. Is using the AI feature mandatory to use Leapsome?
- The AI-backed enhancement in the Reviews module is optional. The enhancement is on-demand, meaning you can choose to switch it on or off. If you do not want to use the enhancement, you are not obligated to do so and can continue using Leapsome as before.
6. Will this eventually lead to employees being measured against performance predictions made by AI?
- These AI features are optional and need to be enabled by an admin.
- If a manager chooses to use these features, then they should view this as one step towards finalizing their feedback - not the final step. To ensure the AI-generated improvements, suggestions, and predictions align with the manager’s intentions, tone of voice, and lived experience managing their direct report, the manager should closely review the optimized feedback and critically assess whether the growth areas that the AI unearthed are valid and appropriate. The manager should always make this final decision.
- The AI-generated suggestions can be viewed as the AI’s “opinion.” A good manager is skilled in taking in multiple views, opinions, and data points and weighing them appropriately to make informed decisions based on their unique perspective of managing a team of individuals with different strengths and opportunities for growth.
7. How do we ensure that managers thoroughly review any and all AI suggestions, and how do we enable them to make informed decisions about which suggestions to accept and reject (especially when it comes to AI-recommended development initiatives)?
- The AI enhancement should be viewed as a tool to empower managers to optimize their written feedback should they wish to use it. It is up to the individual manager whether they want to turn on the enhancement or not.
- If they do decide to use it, they should view it as one step towards finalizing their feedback — not the final step. To ensure the AI-generated improvements align with the manager’s intentions, tone of voice, and lived experience managing their direct report, they should closely review the optimized feedback.
- The AI-generated suggestions can be viewed as the AI’s “opinion.” A good manager is skilled in taking in multiple views, opinions, and data points and weighing them appropriately to make informed decisions based on their unique perspective of managing a team of individuals with different strengths and opportunities for growth.
