If you want to use our Instant Feedback or Reviews modules, you should familiarize yourself with the Competency Framework.
Edit your competencies by navigating to 'My Company' > ‘Competencies’ from the menu bar on the left-hand side. We’ve already pre-filled a best-practice framework in your account.
You can keep this framework or personalize the competency framework by defining relevant skills for all employees. Some of our customers also use their company values here. Try to limit yourself from three to ten items in the Competency Framework - it makes giving feedback much easier!
Team competencies that are only relevant for some employees (like marketing or engineering teams) can be added as team competencies.
Adding competencies
Select a short title, add an optional description and pick the category that suits your org needs best. You can decide if the competency applies to everyone or is relevant to a specific team only.
For the team competencies, you can add several teams to one skill. The following competency in the screenshot below applies to Sales and Customer Success teams only:
Archiving a competency
Archiving a competency is easy. Navigate to your Competency Framework, and mark the relevant competencies in the checkbox next to them. A prompt 'Archive' at the top will show up - click on it, and the selected competencies will be archived and removed from your Competency Framework. All feedback collected on the removed competency will still be available for past cycles, however, they will not be included in future Review cycles.
Editing a competency
Editing a competency is limited to changing its description. Why? Once you start collecting feedback on a specific competency, it would be unfair to move the basis of evaluation. Therefore, if you want to measure something new, we suggest creating a new competency
Why do we use a Competency Framework?
Using structured feedback dimensions has various advantages over unstructured feedback:
- For the employee: Employees get valuable, specific input on where to focus their learning & development efforts.
- For peer interaction: Employees know what’s relevant. It helps them to observe and give each other feedback on what matters.
- For the company: The core values and expectations are communicated more consistently, so they become visible and are executed throughout the company.
